  1. On page 76, Montag asks Faber,"How many copies of the Bible are left in this country?" Why is it important that Montag finds a Bible? Why is it important that he went to Faber?

    1. Faber can teach him to understand what he is reading. Montag needs a teacher. Also, he wants to know how many copies there are so he can give a duplicate to Beatty to turn in and also keep a copy.

  2. Are you surprised that Montag even knows how to read?

    1. Yes, with so little content to read, it is surprising that anyone at all is literate.

    2. I feel like they know how to read because they can read what they have on the TV. I feel like they may not know what is going on in what they are reading.

    3. They definitely don't understand what they read, but I am surprised that they are literate because you don't have to be able to read to watch t.v. How do they teach little children to read and write?

    1. I think she is just shocked because everyone is so used to being told that books are bad, and Montag was an enforcer of this. Now he has completely switched sides.

  10. "Its because were having so much fun at home we've forgotten the world" obviously this shows that if everyone was able to do and have what they wanted in life everyone would let the rest of the world crumble and would not care.

  11. "We've started and won two atomic wars since 2022!" Why aren't people scared of this happening with all the planes constantly flying overhead? Do you think that this will impact the story at a later time?

    2. I don't think Montag has the last bible. Faber said that there are no other copies left, but he just said that because he didn't trsut Montag and didn't want to get caught by a fireman.

    1. I think that it was a gradual thing rather than one event, and I think they did it to remove things that could offend people.

      Delete
    2. Well, Beatty said books were full of evil, so I thought they did because they are believing that thoughts in books are what brings about revolution and evil. But that is actually humans faults, so they destroy books, cram your head with facts to make you think you know something, and then this will bring about conformity. This is why books began to burn.

  19. Why are the words Fear and War capitalized on page 73?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that Bradbury wanted to make the reader emphasize the importance of those two words and wanted to make an impact on the story.

  20. Not all books are insulting, only most. Comic books and the magazines were kept because they were purely entertainment and no thinking involved. I assume that this is the same with TV shows, documentaries and the like aren't aired, but celebrity or similar shows are kept.

    3. I think Faber has known for quite awhile, but also it does not say when Faber was born, but it when Montag and Faber talk, he was a professor, and it made him sound like he has known about books and taught books before the began to burn, so I think he has known his entire life.

  33. How does the sieve represent their society?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It represents how everyone just takes information through one ear and it flows out the other almost immediately. I think that is why it was so hard for Montag to memorize the Bible, because people in this society have never had to memorize something before.
