Your First Blogging Task

Thanks for stopping by!

Your first mission: To familiar yourself with Ms. Leclaire's new webpage

1. Browse Ms. Leclaire's webpage by clicking HERE or by visiting the "Teacher Pages" link on the AHS website.  Then, click around on the different pages (some are still under construction) and peruse the items that may be of use or interest to you.

2. In the comment section underneath this post, please do one (or both) of the following):

  • Post ONE item from the webpage that you find useful or interesting.
  • Offer ONE suggestion for improvement.  What would you like to see on this website? What would help you in terms of layout and content?

3. Be sure to read the other comments first because you may not repeat anything that has already been posted. (Hint: As you may have already figured out, it's easier to be one of the first people to post than one of the last.)

4. This is due before the start of class on Wednesday.

  2. One of the things that i really like about Ms. Leclaires website is that is has links to everything that we do in class. This is good because it allowes you to know exactly what we did in class if you happened to miss class, or if you were just not paying attention. I am very glad that Ms. Leclaire has put the effort into making her website. It will help me do a lot better in her class.

  3. One aspect of your web page that I am fond of is your off-hour schedule, it will be extremely useful this school year.
One thing that your web page is lacking is a border/color which would help in making English more exciting.

  4. I think all the different links to different parts of the website that are down the left side are very convenient because he it makes it very easy and fast to find the part of the webpage you need to go to.

  5. I like how you put the helpful websites into your website. I love how you added the important things such as the SAS writing reviser or the A.P. help such as the central and lit term flashcards. I also like the the poetry that you added such as the American poetry and British Poetry. Its very useful how you put in the Oxford dictionary and the Harvard Concordance.

    1. So you may have been checking out my A.P. website instead of my English 10 website (no worries), but you made me realize that many of those things I need to put on the English 10 website as well.

  6. I like how user friendly your website is, everything is well accessible and I don't have any trouble finding anything on your website. However there is one thing that would personally help me is when you post the homework in red so that it catches the eye so it is easy to see and find.

  7. Something that I found interesting and helpful on your webpage was the calendar feature. It is really neat on how we can view when we have projects due or when we are going to start a new unit. A suggestion to your webpage could be adding more helpful links to sites that can improve our writing or vocabulary, like the AP Lit class has under their section.

  10. The side tabs are very useful with navigating through your webpage. They take students to your calender and English 10 page.
A improvement that could be made is that you make the HERE link a little bit more visible and easier to see.

  12. The tabs were very helpful to because it helps with knowing what we are doing in the up coming semester. It also help knowing what we are doing during the week. I also like the personal information about yourself and learning about you. One thing you could improve on is the color. It would be a lot more interesting and fun.

  15. One aspect of the website I enjoyed was the semester overviews of what we are doing! So we know where we are in the unit and what to expect.

The only thing I would suggest as others have is more color but not just fonts but in backgrounds! Also, a few pictures wouldn't hurt to make you more personable!

One thing I found interesting on your website is that the book "Of Mice and Men" is about the Great Depression and I really think that it could be a great book and I am looking forward to reading it! I liked that I could just click on First semester and all the books we are going to read are on that page!

  18. I think that the tabs help me navigate through the website easier. I also like the links to help avoid to much information being on one page. I think that the homework should also be posted on the calender. i found it very useful when teachers did that last year.

    1. What if I posted a link on the calendar to the class blog? I want to make the calendar user friendly, but I'd love to avoid typing the homework in two separate places each day if possible.

  19. I believe that the webpage that you created allowed me to navigate easier to find what I need to, for example: I want to find the homework assignments, just click on calendar and you got today's assignments. I also find this more interesting than just finding a regular teacher page, it shows that teachers are becoming more creative in communicating with their students. I agree with Colin Frank, that the page is a little bland, and needs color and better text. If you need help on color design for websites, I learned from my old art teacher and web designer how to design websites in HTML format and JavaScript. The essay writing was a very good idea to help kids on their writing and you could make it better by putting other websites on to help with grammar and other essential parts of grammar. I find your website an interesting way to tell us more about yourself, and to communicate to your students to give them what they need to excel in this class.

  22. One aspect I really liked about your website was all of the pictures of your life, along with the organization of your website. It is very easy to navigate, because you have links to many sources. It is a very well made site.

One thing that you could add to your website is more helpful suggestions and tips to help students get better as a writer and reader. You could provide some links to great websites, along with your opinion on excellent writing.

  23. To start off, this webpage is very organized which helps the students navigate more easily through it. One gadget that I found interesting were the subpages. For example, under English 10, First semester you can find the overall information about the books we will read over the course of this semester. But, as you go down you can find subpages that thoroughly describe these novels. This really helps the reader explore different subjects easier.

  24. One thing I liked about the website was how user friendly it was and how much content it had. The tabs on the side make it very easy to navigate with while using the website. Having all the content about what we are doing this year is also very helpful because if you miss something, it is easy to figure out what you need to do.

One thing that I think could be added to the website to make it better are some helpful links. Other websites that might help us improve our writing or give us some tips. Things similar to the Purdue Online Writing Lab, maybe something like Writing Reviser.

    1. Yes--I need to get SAS Writing Reviser on there. I might also include some PSAT / ACT links, vocabulary links, and grammar links. If you've used other helpful websites in English classes in the past, please share them with me and I'll put them on the website, too.

  25. One thing that I like about your website is it's unique. Most teachers have the original Arapahoe webpage and when the students come to get on your website they look forward to it. They like the fact that's its different. Lastly, I like that you can be very interactive with other students in your class.

  26. I think overall the website is very user friendly and well made. One thing I think could be edited was the three things right under the title. (Off hours, qualifications, etc.). I think if they were linked to another page it would be easier to see and use. One thing I really liked about the webpage were the pictures and quick captions about your life. The website is also very is to use and navigate. The links to the English 10 page make it easy to focus on things that apply only to our class.

  28. I think your website is very unique and fun. Almost every other teacher just has a normal webpage on the AHS page. I think your unique website will make students want to use it more. It also helps students see what they missed if they were not in class or were not paying attention. I think it is also very neat how you can see what other students posted and how you can interact with them. Overall, I think your website is awesome and a great use of technology.

  29. Ms. Leclaire, I have found your website to be very useful and inviting! One of many ways that makes your website useful is the Google calendar. This is a wonderful tool that allows one to access and view what was taught or even presented on any given day. In addition, this tool allows one to go a step further and prepare for the upcoming week by viewing the entire weeks agenda. However, I did notice that this site could use some more color. Try applying a background or something to take the viewers eyes of the white background. In the end, you have made an outstanding teacher page that I'm more than sure will help students excel in learning English!

  30. Your website is pretty organized and fun. I like all the pictures and the stories about your life make the website more inviting and interesting. It is pretty easy to navigate your website so far, except for one thing. When I was trying to get back on the blog, I forgot how so maybe you should make the linked "HERE" a different color to make it more noticeable.
